The meeting will take place at the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, where the head of the regional executive will express the gratitude of the people of Madrid for the Pontiff's upcoming visit to the region, scheduled between June 6th and 9th. The distinction is awarded as a gesture of courtesy and recognition to dignitaries on official visits.
The International Medal of the Community of Madrid, regulated by Law 2/2024, recognizes the institutional work of representatives from other countries and international organizations. Recently, the United States and the president-elect of Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, have received this award.
During the audience, Díaz Ayuso will present Pope Francis with a special edition book featuring images of Catholic celebrations in Madrid municipalities, as well as typical regional products like the pastries from Morata de Tajuña and olives from Campo Real.
Furthermore, the president will inform the Pontiff about the preparations for the Pope's visit to Madrid, which will take place under the motto 'Madrid, community'. The Real Casa de Correos will serve as the International Press Center to host over 2,000 journalists, and a special transport, health, and cultural plan will be implemented for the thousands of pilgrims.
