The Museo Picasso – Colección Eugenio Arias in Buitrago del Lozoya presents the exhibition “The avant-garde bullfighting poster: from Picasso to Barceló”, exploring the transformation of the bullfighting poster into a work of art.

The exhibition traces the evolution of the bullfighting poster, from its beginnings as a mere informational support to its transformation into an artistic expression by recognized authors. The tour starts from the tradition of printed advertising in Spain, whose first preserved poster dates back to 1737 and advertised a bullfight.
The figure of Pablo Picasso is highlighted as a key figure in this renovation. His posters created in Vallauris between 1954 and 1961 marked a turning point by simplifying the bullfighting poster to its essential elements: place, year, the word “toros” (bulls), and an image of great symbolic power.
From this inaugural gesture, the exhibition establishes a dialogue between tradition and avant-garde, reaching contemporary creation with works by artists such as Miquel Barceló, Eduardo Arroyo, Fernando Botero, Eduardo Úrculo, and Guillermo Pérez Villalta.
The exhibition is curated by Fernando González Viñas and Angela Suau and is held at the exhibition hall of Buitrago del Lozoya, located at C. de la Tahona, 19.
Visiting hours are Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 18:00, Saturdays from 10:00 to 19:00, and Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 14:00. The museum will be closed on Mondays, January 1 and 6, Easter Sunday, August 14 and 15, and December 24, 25, and 31.
