Neighborhood associations and AMPAS (Parents' Associations) from the Arganzuela district are set to deliver over 9,400 signatures to Cibeles. This action aims to demonstrate the strong local opposition to the EMT Museum project, which the municipal government plans to build on land next to the Manzanares River.
Residents argue that plot EQ4, adjacent to the former Vicente Calderón park, was designated for sports facilities according to urban planning. Consequently, they have launched a donation campaign to cover the legal costs of a potential lawsuit against the Madrid City Council.
“"We need to raise 10,000 euros to cover the legal expenses of the lawsuit against the Madrid City Council and prevent them from replacing our sports center with a bus museum."
They also recall years of struggle to secure this plot and three others in the area, following the demolition of the Vicente Calderón stadium. The community had hoped to enjoy the promised facilities, but now they denounce that the City Council intends to relocate the sports provision to the expansion plot of the CEIP Tomás Bretón, which would reduce necessary improvements for the school.
Residents clarify that they are not against the concept of the EMT Museum, but they insist that tourist interest should not override the needs of children. They suggest that alternative locations exist in Madrid to house the historic buses. The fundraising campaign has already collected over 3,000 euros in its first three days.
