The Community of Madrid has declared Operational Situation 2 of the Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fires (#INFOMA26) due to a wildfire that originated in Almorox (Toledo) on July 22, 2026. The incident has direct implications for the Community of Madrid, affecting the municipality of Villa del Prado.
In response to the fire's progression, urgent recommendations have been issued to the public. It is advised to avoid travel to the affected areas and follow the guidance of emergency services. Residents in nearby municipalities should close doors and windows and turn off air conditioning units that draw in outside air, especially if vulnerable individuals with respiratory conditions are at home. People are advised to move away from the fire, in the opposite direction of smoke and wind, and seek safe areas such as firebreaks, rivers, or already burnt zones. In case of evacuation, it is recommended to have a backpack ready with essentials like medication, documentation, and basic necessities, and to follow information from official sources by calling 112.
As a consequence of the fire, the urbanization El Encinar del Alberche has been evacuated, and the municipality of Villa del Prado has been confined. The Madrid 112 Security and Emergencies Agency has sent an ES-Alert message to inform about these measures.
At least 19 ground and air resources from the Firefighters Corps, Forest Firefighters, and Forest Agents Corps of the Community of Madrid are currently working in the area. Road closures are in effect on the M-507 towards Navalcarnero and the N-403 towards Toledo at the intersection of both roads.
The Forest Fire Emergency Plan establishes actions and resource mobilization based on the operational situation, which can range from Phase 0 (always operational) to Phase 3 (national interest). The Community of Madrid directs emergencies of situation 0, 1, and 2, while the State Administration assumes direction in situation 3.
