A total of 192 new officers have joined the National Police force in the Community of Madrid. The presentation ceremony, held at the Superior Headquarters, was attended by Government delegate Francisco Martín and Police Superior Chief Javier Galván. According to Martín, the region has seen a 15 percent increase in its personnel since 2018.
Initially scheduled for July, the event was postponed due to the fires that affected the Sierra Oeste of Madrid. Among the new recruits are both officers in training and those transferred from other postings. Martín welcomed the newcomers, emphasizing that the National Police is renewed with each promotion and strengthened by the experience of those arriving from elsewhere, preparing for future challenges.
The delegate stressed that this renewal "does not alter the essence" of the institution but rather prepares it to face societal changes and evolving forms of crime. He reiterated that the officers' primary mission is to "protect the free exercise of rights and freedoms and guarantee citizen security," a task that must be fulfilled "with preparation, coordination, and presence in the territory, on the streets, and at the police station."
Martín described the territory of the Community of Madrid, with its seven million inhabitants, major infrastructure, and intense economic, cultural, and social activity, as "complex and dynamic." He highlighted the need to act swiftly while maintaining composure in the most difficult situations.
This incorporation is part of the "sustained commitment" of the Government of Spain to the National Police and regional security. The Madrid force thus reaches an all-time high in personnel, exceeding the population growth of the Community itself.
The delegate began his speech by remembering Amador Hernández, an officer from the Provincial Brigade of Immigration and Borders, who died early that morning in a traffic accident while returning home after his shift. Martín conveyed the support of the police family and citizens to his relatives.
