The Velilla de San Antonio City Council has issued a statement confirming the potability of water in Sector XXIII, following the latest reports from Canal de Isabel II. According to the entity, tests conducted indicate that all analyzed parameters are within normal values and that the water is safe for human consumption.
The council has assured that it maintains constant contact with Canal de Isabel II, which will continue to take samples in the coming days as part of its protocol. Furthermore, it has been noted that the municipality has a fixed Official Sampling Station, where samples are collected weekly for periodic controls, also confirming the water's suitability for consumption.
“"The conclusion of the Canal de Isabel II report is that the water supplied to our municipality has not had any quality incident preventing its normal use, being suitable for human consumption."
Canal de Isabel II detailed that on April 7, it received a quality alert from a resident of Velilla de San Antonio regarding nitrite levels in the water. Although the exact sampling point and the reliability of the analytical method were unknown, the entity acted immediately, opening an incident and taking samples on April 8. Analytical results from April 13 confirmed that all parameters, including nitrites, were below the reference values established in RD 3/2023.
On the other hand, the political party Vanguardia has expressed its «deep concern» over residents' doubts about water safety. They have called for a rigorous investigation to ensure the peace of mind and safety of all citizens. The party indicated that on April 20, residents from Sector XXIII provided them with water analysis tests showing elevated nitrite levels, which led to the reopening of an incident that had initially been closed.
Vanguardia has advised residents not to consume tap water until the City Council makes a statement and guarantees the absence of problems. They have demanded active and transparent involvement from the council and the governing team in verifying water quality, warning that «public health does not allow for doubts or delays.» They have also criticized the City Council's delay in issuing an official statement and denounced attacks against their councilors.
