The municipal management of Torrejón de Ardoz has prioritized the continuous urban and social development of the locality. Among the most prominent challenges is the implementation of the waste fee, a mandatory measure by regulation that the local administration seeks to adjust to the reality of its residents. Reductions of 10% for recycling and 15% for direct debit have been achieved, which will lower the average annual bill.
“"It is an untimely and unnecessary fee, because these costs were already assumed by the City Council, but the regulations oblige us to implement it. We are trying to adjust it to the reality of Torrejón."
Another major objective is university growth. Torrejón de Ardoz aims to consolidate itself as an educational hub, expanding the range of degrees and attracting more students, especially in collaboration with the University of Alcalá. This approach seeks to energize youth and academic life in the city.
In terms of housing, the city is moving forward with the Plan Vive from the Community of Madrid, which has already delivered 137 homes. Additionally, the City Council is promoting rental housing developments for residents, with a first phase of 150 homes and plans for future expansions. Building rehabilitation is also key, with over 40 properties and nearly 1,000 homes benefiting from European funds, improving energy efficiency, accessibility, and aesthetics.
Security and cleanliness remain fundamental pillars of management. The local administration is strengthening the Local Police with technical and technological resources, seeking a close and well-equipped force. Regarding cleanliness, efforts are being made to raise citizen awareness, and the implementation of canine DNA is planned to identify and penalize those who do not pick up their pets' waste, thus promoting a cleaner environment for everyone.
Finally, the construction of the Ronda Sur is seen as essential infrastructure for mobility in Torrejón de Ardoz, facilitating access to the M-45 and relieving traffic congestion. Despite temporary inconveniences for some residents, the administration emphasizes the necessity of this project for the future development of the city, which aims to continue growing in a planned manner and offer a high quality of life to its inhabitants.
