The Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has completed the comprehensive air conditioning of the 899 classrooms in its 21 public schools, a municipal investment of 7 million euros to improve educational conditions.

The 899 classrooms in the 21 public schools of Torrejón de Ardoz now have air conditioning. The City Council has finalized the comprehensive air conditioning project for the Primary Education centers, an investment of 7 million euros aimed at improving conditions for students and teachers during the hottest months.
Mayor Alejandro Navarro announced the project's completion at the Beethoven School, highlighting it as one of the initiatives "we are most proud of from the City Council," due to its investment and direct impact on the educational community. "All 21 public schools in Torrejón de Ardoz now have every single one of their classrooms air-conditioned. We said we would achieve this in two years, and we have done it," stated the mayor.
The project, which began in 2025 and concluded in 2026, involved the installation of 1,669 split-type air conditioning units in 899 classrooms, covering all teaching spaces in the city's public schools. This measure addresses the increasing temperatures in recent years, which hinder learning and teaching during May, June, and September.
Navarro emphasized the importance of ensuring that "students can focus on their education and teachers can dedicate themselves exclusively to teaching." This initiative complements previous measures like the installation of awnings. The mayor asserted that this air conditioning makes Torrejón de Ardoz "the only city in Spain" to have fully air-conditioned all its public school classrooms using municipal funding.
The director of the Beethoven School, Ana María, expressed gratitude for the initiative on behalf of the educational community, describing the difference as "an abyss" between working in optimal conditions and working without them. The City Council plans to progressively extend air conditioning to other areas of the centers, such as school canteens.
The mayor also highlighted the institutional collaboration with the Community of Madrid and the Department of Education to continue improving the educational infrastructure in Torrejón de Ardoz, assuring that "we will continue collaborating to advance all actions that benefit our students and teachers."
