A recent speed control campaign in Coslada, conducted by the Local Police between April 13 and 19, has resulted in 17 drivers being fined for exceeding speed limits.

During the initiative, which was part of a General Directorate of Traffic campaign, a total of 436 vehicles were monitored. Of these, 3.9% were fined for speed-related infractions, with particular attention paid to urban roads within the municipality.
Surveillance devices were strategically deployed in various areas of Coslada, including access and exit points, as well as other streets identified as critical for speed control. Fines for these types of infractions range from 100 to 600 euros and can lead to the loss of between 2 and 6 points from the driving license, depending on the severity.

"In urban areas with a 30 km/h limit, one of the most common behaviors detected is driving between 51 and 60 km/h, which results in a 300 euro fine and the loss of two points."

The Coslada City Council has reiterated the importance of speed as a key factor in road accidents. It is estimated that between 10% and 15% of accidents and up to 30% of fatal incidents are directly linked to inappropriate speed. Authorities warn that higher speeds increase both the risk and severity of injuries. For instance, above 80 km/h, a pedestrian's survival in a run-over incident is practically impossible, whereas at 30 km/h, the risk of death is reduced to 5%.
