The San Fernando de Henares City Council has officially announced the incorporation of OGMIA as its Resident Dance Company. This pioneering initiative seeks to establish a permanent link between the artistic group and the municipality, with the primary goal of bringing contemporary dance closer to citizens, expanding audiences, and creating new spaces for artistic creation.
The company, directed by Eduardo Vallejo, will be based at the ‘Joaquín de Luz’ Municipal School of Music and Dance. It will develop a stable project linked to the city, with activities aimed at young people, the elderly, educational centers, and other community groups. The official presentation to the public will take place on September 18th, at 7:30 PM, in the Federico García Lorca Theater, with free admission.
Mayor Javier Corpa emphasized that this residency goes beyond simply adding a company to the cultural program: “We are initiating a relationship of continuity with dance and contemporary creation. OGMIA is not coming for a single day's performance; it is coming to stay, to be present, to build connections, and to make the city.” He also highlighted the company's national and international projection and his desire for the name of San Fernando de Henares to travel with it.
Pablo Sanz, the Councilor for Culture, stressed the residency's aim to bring dance closer to citizens and ensure its presence not only on stage but also in other spaces and in contact with different community groups. Founded in late 2019 by Eduardo Vallejo, OGMIA merges dance with visual arts, martial arts, anime, video games, and dystopian and futuristic imaginaries, and has undertaken national and international tours.
OGMIA's annual activity program will include proposals in unconventional spaces and collaborations with municipal departments, aiming to enrich the cultural programming and foster the creation of new shows. The mayor reiterated the local government's vision of culture as an essential public service, close and accessible to all residents.
