The building, currently unoccupied, will undergo an intervention to consolidate its structure, facades, and roofs, thus preventing its deterioration, which the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Vicente Pérez, described as "imminent".
The works, which will last for six months, aim to preserve this "important heritage asset for all residents of Alcalá," according to Pérez. The property suffers from foundation problems, evidenced by a vertical crack running through the building and causing severe damp damage.
The cracking issue forced the complete evacuation of the building years ago, and its subsequent emptiness has increased its deterioration. The building, constructed by Sergio Real in the 1930s, was conceived as housing linked to the "La Esperanza" Flour and Bread Factory.
The intervention covers a building with three floors above ground and a subterranean air-raid shelter, highlighting constructive elements such as hydraulic pavements and stained-glass windows signed by Maumejean. It is located within the protection area of the Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) of the Mill Building of the old "La Esperanza" Flour Factory.
