The Paracuellos de Jarama City Council has expanded its Tutor Agents unit, increasing from one to three specialized officers dedicated to monitoring school environments and preventing youth conflicts, in response to the high proportion of minors in the municipality.
This strategic measure by the Paracuellos de Jarama City Council aims to strengthen the safety and well-being of minors in the municipality. The decision to increase the Tutor Agents team, which now comprises three members, responds to the significant presence of young people in the town, where one-third of the population is under 18. This demographic reality has driven the need for trained professionals to proactively address youth issues.
Tutor Agents are local police officers with specialized training in social and educational fields. Their work focuses on conflict prevention and resolution, acting as a trusted link between young people, families, and educational centers. Unlike conventional patrols, their work primarily takes place in schoolyards, school entrances, and public spaces frequented by adolescents, seeking to establish a close and mediating relationship.
Their key functions include ensuring safety on school routes, controlling absenteeism, and mediating disputes among young people before they escalate into larger problems. Furthermore, these agents dedicate a significant part of their efforts to preventing current risks, such as cyberbullying and irresponsible technology use, by giving talks and awareness campaigns. They also maintain constant vigilance over traditional risks like substance consumption near educational centers and promote road safety.
The expansion of this unit seeks comprehensive coordination among the Local Police, social services, and school administrations, ensuring a rapid and joint response to any problem affecting a minor. The figure of the Tutor Agent, being a familiar and approachable face for students, makes them feel more comfortable reporting situations of abuse or harassment, allowing for effective monitoring of vulnerability cases and direct support to families.
