The municipality of Paracuellos de Jarama is gearing up to host a total solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12th. The City Council has organized a special day for residents and visitors to enjoy this astronomical phenomenon safely and comfortably.
The chosen location for observation will be the viewpoint on Miramadrid street, near number 133. This spot offers panoramic views of the horizon, including the skyline of Madrid, the runways of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, and the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains.
The venue will open its doors at 6:00 PM. The totality of the eclipse is expected to begin at 8:30 PM and will last approximately 32 seconds. During the wait, there will be chill-out music, a refreshment area, and a space for photography and astronomy enthusiasts. Admission will be free.
Prior to the event, at the end of July, the Plaza de la Constitución will host an educational projection explaining solar eclipses and the safety measures required for observation.
Additionally, the City Council will launch a campaign to support local businesses. Customers presenting a purchase receipt of at least 15 euros from any business in the municipality can receive free certified eclipse glasses, while supplies last. Purchase receipts from the entire week prior to the event will be accepted.
The mayor of Paracuellos de Jarama, Jesús Muñoz, emphasized that the initiative aims to provide a unique and safe experience, while also promoting local commerce and positioning the municipality as a venue for singular events. He described the Miramadrid viewpoint as 'one of the great natural balconies of the Community of Madrid'.
Attendees are advised to bring a cap or hat, sunscreen, water, and a folding chair. It is crucial to use only certified glasses for solar observation.
This event joins the offerings within the Community of Madrid to follow this astronomical phenomenon, combining science, outdoor leisure, and support for local businesses.
