The Mayoress of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, participated this morning in the presentation of the 2026-2027 stage program at the centenary Corral de Comedias. The event was also attended by Manuel Lagos, Director General of Culture and Creative Industries of the Community of Madrid, and Juan Mayorga, artistic director of the Corral de Comedias, along with the Councilor for Culture, Santiago Alonso.
The new season will feature nearly forty theatre, music, poetry, dance, and family shows. The proposals combine the classic and the avant-garde, with references to authors such as Shakespeare, Beethoven, Lope de Vega, Tirso, and Cervantes. Specifically, an adaptation of ‘La Gitanilla’ will be presented during the Cervantes Week in October, an event recently declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest.
The program will also include works by 20th-century creators such as Bertolt Brecht, Lorca, and Darío Fo, tributes to icons like Elvis Presley, and will address current issues such as violence against women, special education, and geopolitics.

The mayoress invited visitors to the Corral de Comedias, describing it as "one of those places that, on their own, make it worthwhile to come to Alcalá de Henares to get to know us, to enjoy our art, our history, and our cultural life".
After thanking the Community of Madrid and the Teatro de la Abadía Foundation for managing the theatre, Piquet emphasized the venue's importance as "one of those places that make Alcalá a unique and essential city".
