Alcalá de Henares hosted the ‘Horizonte Madrid Este’ forum on September 21, 2026, organized by El Periódico de España and the publishing group Prensa Ibérica. The event, held at the Corral de Comedias, brought together mayors and business leaders to analyze the present and future of this important area for the Community of Madrid.
The event also included the participation of the mayors of Torrejón de Ardoz, Paracuellos del Jarama, Velilla de San Antonio, and Villalbilla, along with executives from companies established in the area and representatives from the economic, university, and social sectors.
Judith Piquet, who opened the event, stressed the forum's importance for "having the opportunity to contrast and share experiences, perspectives, proposals, analyses, and ideas" on topics such as the economy, transport, mobility, housing, and digitalization within the territory.
“"Alcalá and its sister municipalities in the Henares area have a privileged geographical location that, in itself, opens up a wide range of strengths, potentials, and added values within a region like the Community of Madrid, which is the great economic and social locomotive of our country."
Following her speech, the mayor participated in a round table. She highlighted that the region's privileged geographical location, excellent communications, and industrial and logistical tradition make it a preferred destination for investment and entrepreneurship, particularly in innovation, technology, and knowledge – areas where the Community of Madrid is a leader.
