During September 11th and 12th, the Complutense city welcomed numerous citizens to its historical sites, offering a varied program that included heritage, music, theater, dance, guided tours, family activities, crafts, and traditions.
The Councilor for Culture, Santiago Alonso, highlighted the 'public response and citizen participation' as keys to success, consolidating the event in the cultural calendar. 'Complutense heritage has moved beyond being a mere historical space to become a living, accessible, and shared heritage,' he stated.
The public turnout was significant, especially in the most emblematic heritage sites, which extended their hours and transformed into cultural stages, allowing for a different way to enjoy the city and bringing monuments and museums closer to all ages.
The Open Heritage program facilitated free visits to various spaces, some until midnight. The Tourist Office-Capilla del Oidor, the Birthplace Museum of Cervantes, and the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid, along with the Tower of Santa María, Complutum, the House of Hyppolitus, and the Antiquarium, received a large number of visitors.
Guided tours, such as Routes and Legends of Alcalá, Alcalá and Saint Ignatius of Loyola, and Discover Alcalá at Night, offered new perspectives on the city's history and heritage after dark.
The cultural program filled spaces like the Ruins of Santa María with the public, hosting a concert by the Schola Cantorum of Alcalá de Henares and the theatrical performance Hippolytus and Laetitia. The Hospital de Antezana and the Chapel of San Ildefonso were other venues for musical performances.
The streets of the historic center buzzed with performances like Drak Flama by Teatrapo Producciones, the parade by the Complutense Symphonic Band, and the XI edition of VespAlcalá, which exhibited classic scooters in the Plaza de Cervantes.
Family activities also had a great reception. The Old Hospital of Santa María la Rica offered storytelling, contemporary dance, and the workshop Family Dance, as well as the craft workshop Alcalá's Heritage in Molds and Clay.
The offer was completed with Scene Heritage, which included dance by Cienfuegosdanza at the Corral de Comedias with the pieces Emigradas.
