Coslada City Council is evaluating various alternatives to recover the San Martín de Valdeiglesias estate, which hosted the 'Las Tórtolas' summer camps until 2020.

The Councilor for Sports of Coslada, Luis Arteaga, announced at the municipal plenary session that the council is studying options to reopen the San Martín de Valdeiglesias estate, the location of the 'Las Tórtolas' summer camps until 2020. One of the main alternatives considered is transferring management to a company specializing in adventure activities.
This proposal follows a motion by the Popular Party, supported by Vox and with abstentions from PSOE, Más Madrid, Podemos, and non-attached councilors, which urged the recovery of the space. The PP representatives highlighted the importance of resuming activities such as canoeing and hiking, emphasizing the educational value and contact with nature that these camps offered to generations of Coslada residents.
Arteaga explained that the estate is located in a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), which imposes new legislative requirements and the need to dismantle old structures. To comply with current regulations, the City Council is considering the purchase of an additional 10,000 square meters in San Martín de Valdeiglesias.
The other main avenue is the transfer of management to an adventure company. This company would be responsible for the homologation of facilities and the organization of the camps, reserving one of the turns for Coslada residents. The councilor indicated that companies are already interested in undertaking this project, which would allow for operational facilities with the necessary permits in a short timeframe.
For their part, Más Madrid councilor Sonia Murillo emphasized the need for the estate's recovery to address the current needs of Coslada's families, going beyond the mere recovery of memories.
