Monbus, the operator of the urban service in Alcalá de Henares under the supervision of the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid, has recently integrated eight state-of-the-art electric buses. This strategic addition has allowed almost 64% of the city's total fleet to now have an ECO or zero-emission label, marking a milestone in local sustainable mobility.
With these additions, the urban bus fleet of Alcalá de Henares now totals 58 vehicles. Of these, eight are fully electric, fourteen operate with hybrid technology, and fifteen use gas, while the remainder are EURO IV category models. The new buses are from the Yutong model, a manufacturer renowned for its expertise in zero-emission mobility solutions, positioning the company as a pioneer in Spain in adopting this technology.
The average age of the fleet has been reduced to 4.89 years, falling below the five-year threshold. A total of 16 buses are less than three years old, and 28 are less than four years old, reflecting continuous renewal and modernization of the vehicle fleet. In addition to vehicle renewal, Monbus has implemented the GTFS Real Time system, a tool that allows users to check the exact location of buses, estimated arrival times, and any service incidents on Google Maps.
The transport service has also seen an increase in the number of expeditions and frequencies, adapting to the city's urban development. It currently employs almost 200 workers, of whom 170 are drivers. According to the latest quality study conducted by the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid, the concession has received a rating of 8.22 out of 10, representing a 3% increase compared to the previous report and 89% user satisfaction.
