The city will be the center of an event bringing together representatives from the brotherhoods and sisterhoods of Spain's 15 Heritage Cities. The aim is to share experiences, unique aspects, and challenges related to a commemoration that blends popular tradition, cultural heritage, and religious fervor.
The official presentation of the congress was held in the City Council's Plenary Hall, attended by local and religious authorities, as well as brotherhood representatives. The event, themed ‘Between Time and Eternity’, seeks to highlight the artistic richness, monumental legacy, and religious devotion inherent in these historic cities.
Following previous editions in Úbeda (2023), Mérida (2024), and Ibiza (2025), Alcalá de Henares takes on the honor of hosting this fourth edition. Mayor Judith Piquet emphasized the city's centuries-old and diverse Holy Week, declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, and the opportunity the congress presents for its growth.
The congress will feature lectures, debates, and an assembly of representatives from the Spanish Association of Holy Week and Heritage Cities. Participants will include brotherhood members, religious figures, historians, sculptors, and journalists.
The main venues for the event will be the Archbishop's Palace, the Convent of Las Bernardas, the Teatro Salón Cervantes, and the City Hall itself. Additionally, activities will take place in the streets of the Historic Center, including a parade and a procession featuring emblematic images such as La Soledad Coronada and Cristo de los Doctrinos.
