The Complutense city, a founding member of the network, was represented by over 180 managers from 130 destinations who gathered at the event. This meeting, held during the first week of June 2026, underscores the importance of collaboration and experience sharing for tourism management.
Since its launch in 2019 with 70 destinations, the DTI Network has seen remarkable growth, now comprising 716 members. The first congress, held precisely in Alcalá de Henares, brought together only 44 destinations, demonstrating the expansion and consolidation of the DTI model, based on governance, sustainability, innovation, technology, and accessibility.
Under the slogan “People who make destinations. The intelligence that transforms tourism,” the meeting focused on the current and future challenges of the DTI model, exploring a new approach that prioritizes tourism impact with fewer quantitative indicators and greater adaptation to the specific characteristics of each destination.
The event was organized by the State Secretariat for Tourism, through SEGITTUR, with the collaboration of the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council and the Provincial Council of Álava. The closing ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez Grau, along with local and regional authorities.
Isabel Ruiz Maldonado, Councilor for Tourism of the Alcalá de Henares City Council, highlighted the city's participation as fundamental for improving sustainability and accessibility. "Sustainability is not just about the environment but about improving citizens' quality of life," she stated, emphasizing the improvements implemented in the city to create well-being and better pedestrian coexistence, which she considers the best antidote to tourism-phobia.
