The Teatro Salón Cervantes in Alcalá de Henares hosted an emotional ceremony honoring the 45 teachers and directors of the city's educational centers who are retiring during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Education Department of Alcalá de Henares organized the traditional tribute last Wednesday to teachers and staff from schools who have dedicated a significant part of their lives to public education. The event, held at the Teatro Salón Cervantes, recognized 45 professionals, including several principals from schools and institutes.
The ceremony was presided over by the mayor, Judith Piquet; the Councilor for Education, Lola López Bautista; and the Director of the Madrid East Territorial Area of Education, Marcos Rafael Moreno Sánchez. It was also attended by other members of the Municipal Corporation, school principals, colleagues, and families of the honorees.
As is customary, honorees who wished to participate contributed to a commemorative book. This year, 34 teachers shared anecdotes and experiences from their professional careers, receiving a copy of the book and a diploma.

"The generosity, infinite patience, and enthusiasm with which teachers dedicate themselves to the task of instructing and shaping our children and young people in knowledge, attitudes, and values, is a human and collective heritage that we must always value and recognize."

Councilor for Education, Lola López Bautista, emphasized the importance of the testimonies collected in the book, highlighting the teacher-student bond as fundamental for personal and social development. Mayor Judith Piquet, for her part, stressed the essential role of teachers in a city with the educational tradition of Alcalá de Henares, noting their contribution to fostering coexistence and the future.
Piquet added that in Alcalá, a World Heritage site, the city should shine through its love for knowledge and critical thinking. She thanked the professionals from the city's over 70 educational centers, serving nearly 30,000 students, stating that their work has not only improved students but also enriched the life of the city.
