The city of Alcalá de Henares is preparing to host the San Jorge Festivities 2026, an event organized by the Casa de Aragón de Alcalá de Henares that aims to enhance the tradition, coexistence, and rich Aragonese culture. Although San Jorge Day is officially celebrated on April 23, the festivities in the Complutense town are brought forward to the weekend of April 18 to 25.
San Jorge Day is an emblematic date for Aragon, as it coincides with Aragon Day and Book Day. This day evokes the legend of Saint George and the dragon, symbolizing the eternal struggle between good and evil. It is customary in Aragon to give and buy books, in addition to tasting the traditional lanzón, a cake made of sponge cake, cream, nougat, and egg yolk of purely Aragonese origin.
The celebrations in Alcalá de Henares will begin on Saturday, April 18. At 12:00, the Capuchinos Assembly Hall will be the setting for the Festival Proclamation, led by Alberto López, Mª Belén Felices, and Matías Rubio. Later, at 14:30, the Casa de Aragón del Henares will host a potluck meal and card and PlayStation championships.
The program will continue on Friday, April 24, with the Aragonese Jota Festival, which will bring together the Casas de Aragón de Alcalá de Henares, Tres Cantos, and Madrid at the Paco de Lucía Auditorium at 18:30. The festivities will conclude on Saturday, April 25, with an Aragonese Mass at the Parroquia de Santa María la Mayor at 11:00.
