Until September 6, the Antonio López hall in the Antiguo Hospital de Santa María la Rica hosts the photographic exhibition ‘Are You Who I Think You Are?’. This project by Manuela Lorente (Madrid, 1992) consists of six independent stories exploring urban life through everyday scenes, with an ironic and lighthearted tone.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between Alcalá de Henares and PHotoESPAÑA, one of the most important photography festivals nationally and internationally. The hall thus consolidates itself as a center of visual avant-garde, hosting one of the most interesting exhibitions in the festival's official section.
The photographs, spontaneously captured on the street, inspire narratives that combine humor, the absurd, and the unexpected, drawing from popular culture and human relationships. The project offers a playful and critical look at urban life, shaping the city's unique character.
In parallel, until July 26, the Capilla del Oidor presents the exhibition ‘Maitena. Quevedos 2025’. This anthological exhibition celebrates the career of Maitena Burundarena, known as Maitena, a recent recipient of the Ibero-American Award for Graphic Humor Quevedos.
Maitena, the first woman to receive this prestigious award, is recognized for her innovation in humorous language and her social impact. The exhibition covers her work from her early cartoons in the late 80s to series such as ‘Mujeres Alteradas’, ‘Superadas’, and ‘Rumble’, analyzing the evolution of her characters and her social critique on topics like beauty, motherhood, and friendship.
