The Fairgrounds of Alcalá de Henares feature a special security operation for the 2026 Fairs and Festivals, including drones, canine units, cameras, and access controls. Mayor Judith Piquet, accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security, Orlena de Miguel, visited the deployment to oversee its functioning.
The Operational Coordination Center (CECOR) directs and supervises the security of the venue. The operation integrates the Local Police of Alcalá de Henares, officers from other municipalities, the National Police, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, health personnel, and municipal emergency services.
Surveillance extends to other public gathering points such as the Plaza de Cervantes and the walled enclosure where concerts are held. Two drones are used to observe crowd movements from the air and transmit images to the Local Police camera room.
The three entrances to the Fairgrounds are equipped with security filters, metal detectors, and canine units specialized in detecting narcotics. Dogs screen attendees, and if potential substances are detected, officers conduct further checks to prevent drugs from entering the fairgrounds.
The CECOR, functioning as a twin center to the Local Police room, provides access to police applications and cameras installed both inside and outside the venue. This system, in its fourth edition, has been enhanced with three new cameras to improve surveillance in previously identified deficient outdoor areas.
Additionally, the 'peñas' (clubhouses) have health alert ('green mushrooms') or emergency ('red mushrooms') devices that directly mobilize the Police, allowing CECOR to coordinate the response.
Judith Piquet thanked the professionals involved and highlighted the goal of "safe, orderly, and open to all" Fairs, calling for citizen responsibility and cooperation.
