Up to eight groups will be selected to participate in the parade, one of the most anticipated and participatory events of the festive program. Interested groups have until July 30th to submit their applications.
The Councilor for Festivals and Popular Traditions, Antonio Saldaña, highlighted the competition's commitment to citizen participation, emphasizing that the parades have become a major attraction and a meeting point for local associations and groups.
The parade will start at 9:00 PM on Sunday, August 30th, winding through the historic center from the roundabout of Luis de Medina street with Vía Complutense to Plaza de Cervantes, in front of the City Hall. The route is designed for thousands of residents to enjoy the spectacle.
Individuals, entities, associations, and groups active in Alcalá de Henares or with at least one registered resident may participate. Each group must consist of 15 to 50 participants and can incorporate musical elements, props, and light structures.
Five monetary prizes will be awarded: 1,300 euros for the first place, 800 for the second, 400 for the third, 250 for the fourth, and 150 for the fifth. Additionally, all participating groups will receive a 200 euro grant.
The jury will evaluate aspects such as the originality of the theme, the quality of costumes and makeup, design creativity, choreography, staging, and live music. Special recognition will be given to proposals referencing Alcalá de Henares and its traditions.
Applications can be submitted until July 30th at the City Council's General Registry or through other administrative procedures. The full rules are available on the council's electronic headquarters.
