The Grupo Scout 291 Alfa Centauro of Alcalá de Henares is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, establishing itself as one of the longest-standing and most significant youth organizations in the education of children and young people in the city.
Since its foundation, over 1,300 children and young people have participated in the group's activities, which promotes an educational model based on experience and community living. This association is part of ASDE – Scouts de España and the Federación Scout – Exploradores de Madrid, offering a non-formal education program for ages between 6 and 21 years.
The pedagogical approach of Grupo Scout 291 Alfa Centauro focuses on acquiring values, developing personal skills, and fostering social commitment. This work is made possible by the efforts of a team of volunteer educators, who complement formal education with practical and experiential learning.
Currently, the group has approximately 140 active members, in addition to an extensive network of families and former scouts, which underscores the deep connection and continuity of its project in Alcalá de Henares. Throughout its history, the entity has maintained a close relationship with the municipality, collaborating in municipal initiatives and participating in social, educational, and environmental events.
The Complutense city has hosted important scout gatherings, where the group has played a prominent role, such as the Scout Song Festival of the Community of Madrid or the National Scout Festival, which brought together thousands of young people from all over Spain.
To celebrate this milestone, the association has organized a series of commemorative events open to the public. Among them, a special day on April 12 stands out, which will include a city game and a meal at the Isla del Colegio, bringing together current members, families, and former participants of the group.
