The Alcalá de Henares City Council, through its departments of Festivities and Popular Traditions and Citizen Participation and Districts, has launched an initiative for residents and groups to contribute to the design of the 2026 Fairs and Festivals, aiming for a more open and inclusive program.

The proposal was presented this morning at the Capuchinos Assembly Hall by Antonio Saldaña, Councillor for Festivities and Popular Traditions, and Esther de Andrés, Councillor for Citizen Participation. Both emphasized the importance of building festivities that reflect the city's cultural, social, and associative diversity.

"The objective of this proposal is to gather ideas, activities, and suggestions that contribute to designing a festive program that is more open, inclusive, and representative of the city's cultural, social, and associative diversity."

This initiative expands a participation model already implemented in various districts for organizing their local festivals, now extending it to the entire Fairs and Festivals. The goal is to ensure that the celebrations are truly representative and created by and for the citizens.

"This participatory process is something that has already been carried out in the different districts of the city during the organization of their festivals, and which we have now wanted to extend to the entire Fairs and Festivals, with the aim of making them even more open, representative, and built by everyone."

Esther de Andrés · Councillor for Citizen Participation
Interested parties can submit their proposals via an online form. Suggestions can include activities the City Council could organize or events proponents wish to carry out themselves, detailing their development and needs. Once the submission period closes, technical staff from the departments will evaluate the feasibility of each proposal, considering available resources, spaces, and the overall program.
The deadline for submitting ideas is May 4, 2026. The City Council encourages all residents and associations to participate actively, emphasizing that citizen involvement is crucial for creating more dynamic, inclusive, and community-oriented festivities.
