The municipality of Tres Cantos transforms into a major cinematic stage during April, offering free screenings, workshops, exhibitions, and a stellar gala on April 18, where Cayetana Guillén Cuervo will chair the jury and pay tribute to her mother.
The Tres Cantos City Council, through its Department of Culture, has officially presented the 5th Tres Cantos Short Film Festival. This annual event, which is gaining prominence in the audiovisual landscape, will fill the municipality with activities and gatherings dedicated to the seventh art throughout April.
For this edition, 430 short films were received from local, national, and international spheres. A selection committee chose 32 works to compete for various awards. The festival will distribute 11,200 euros in prizes, recognizing categories such as Best Short Film, Direction, Screenplay, Male and Female Performance, Soundtrack, and Local Production.
Accessibility is a distinguishing feature of the festival, as all screenings are free. The 32 selected short films will be shown at the Municipal Theater of the Adolfo Suárez Cultural Center on April 10 and 11, in continuous sessions starting at 5 PM. Attendees will have an active role, as their votes will determine the winner of the Special Audience Award.
The festival is supported by the Community of Madrid, which will present a trophy to the winning short film and screen it at the Madrid Short Film Week in October. Additionally, leading audiovisual companies such as Netflix, The Core School, Fundación Secuoya, MasterPhoto, and CortoEspaña sponsor different awards. Movistar+ will also grant an award and broadcast the winning short film on its platform.
The highlight will be the 'Tres Cantos de Cine' gala on Saturday, April 18, at the Municipal Theater of the Adolfo Suárez Cultural Center. The evening will feature a red carpet, photocall, and the awards ceremony, with free admission until capacity is reached. During the gala, a tribute will be paid to actress Gemma Cuervo. Her daughter, actress and presenter Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, will chair the jury for the first time and lead the tribute to her mother.
The parallel program includes the children's festival Pequecinema from April 13 to 16, practical workshops at Factoría Cultural such as 'The Camera and Emotions' and 'Stop Motion', and a soundtrack concert. On April 28, director Fernando Colomo will present his book Las Delicias del Jardín at the Lope de Vega Municipal Library. The 'Treasures of Hollywood' exhibition, featuring over 50 original iconic film objects, will also be on display from April 10 to June 14 at the Baluarte Hall of the Adolfo Suárez Cultural Center.
