“"This year we want to celebrate International Book Day by inviting our neighbors to delve into the wild, to look beyond the limits of civilization. Book Week offers us a journey through untamed territories, both real and literary, reminding us of the human capacity to explore, resist, and marvel at the unknown."

The municipal libraries of Colmenar Viejo are hosting the 2026 Book Week, from April 16 to 25, featuring a program inspired by the life and works of Jack London, in commemoration of his 150th birth anniversary.
Under the theme ‘The Wild: Beyond Civilization’, this year's edition invites residents to explore stories of survival and nature. The event aims for both adults and children to rediscover the joy of reading and the offerings of their local libraries.
The program includes exhibitions such as ‘The Wild’ at the Miguel de Cervantes and Pablo Ruiz Picasso libraries, and ‘Explorers and Adventurers’ at the Mario Vargas Llosa, aimed at different audiences. Additionally, the interactive game ‘What do you know about… the wild?’ has been organized to encourage participation and literary knowledge among users.
Local creativity is rewarded with the XIV Micro-story Contest, which challenged participants over 14 years old to write stories using the words ‘wolf’ and ‘gold’, and the XV Bookmark Contest for children aged 4 to 13, whose winning designs will be printed and distributed throughout the week. The awards ceremony for both contests will be held on April 23, International Book Day.
Among the family activities, the ‘The Wild of Colmenar Viejo’ scavenger hunt stands out, available until April 17, offering cinema tickets as a reward. The Plaza del Pueblo will host ‘Literary Booths’ on Thursday 16, where users can listen to excerpts from classic works by picking up the receiver. There will also be illustration workshops, a mystery game ‘The Great Council. Cluedo’ for young people, and storytelling sessions for all ages.
