Móstoles joins today in the commemoration of International Dyslexia Day by bathing the facade of the City Council and the statue of Andrés Torrejón in turquoise blue. This initiative aims to increase awareness about this neurodevelopmental and learning disorder.
Promoted by the International Dyslexia and Family Organization (DISFAM), the campaign seeks to give greater visibility to dyslexia, a disorder that affects at least 10% of the world's population. Dyslexia is the primary cause of reading and writing difficulties, and a lack of early detection can lead to school failure and inequality of opportunities.
It is important to note that dyslexia is not related to intelligence; individuals with dyslexia can have average or above-average intellectual capacities. It is a condition of neurobiological origin that primarily affects phonological processing, due to differences in the functioning of certain brain areas linked to language.
The manifestation of dyslexia varies in intensity and the difficulties it entails. Therefore, understanding its characteristics and promoting early detection is crucial for providing individualized attention and implementing intervention strategies tailored to each person's needs.
