The Leganés City Council commemorates November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with a program focused on preventing gender-based violence in adolescence and its consequences on minors.

Under the slogan “Towards women, no violence,” the council's Equality Delegation has prepared various activities addressing the different forms of discrimination and violence women experience, from adolescent prevention to legal and social intervention. The slogan reflects the message of the Sectoral Council for Equality's manifesto, which calls for societal responsibility and education to foster relationships based on respect and equality.
The Councilor for Equality, Almudena A. Jiménez, emphasized the importance of recognizing and understanding the different manifestations of violence to combat it. "We firmly believe that prevention begins with education and that we cannot aspire to a violence-free society if we do not teach new generations to build relationships based on respect, equality, and freedom," she stated.
One of the key events will be a double lecture by Marina Marroquí, a social educator and specialist in the prevention of gender-based violence. The talks will take place on Thursday, November 12th: the first at 11:00 AM in the Padre Soler Auditorium at the Carlos III University campus, aimed at high school and university students, and the second at 5:30 PM for the general public at the José Monleón Theater in the José Saramago Civic Center.
The program also includes the exhibition “Growing up with fear: boys and girls facing gender violence,” featuring 60 drawings by minors who have lived in environments of violence, which can be visited at the Rosa Luxemburgo Municipal Center. On November 25th, an institutional walk will take place from the Rosa Luxemburgo Center to Plaza Mayor, followed by a central event at the City Hall at 12:00 PM with the reading of the manifesto.
Furthermore, on Friday, November 27th, a technical conference will be held at the José Saramago Civic Center with the participation of Cira García (gender violence judge), Pablo Nieva (psychologist specializing in child victims of violence), and Débora Ávila Cantos (anthropologist). Attendance requires prior registration at igualdad@leganes.org. Throughout the month, other activities organized by entities of the Sectoral Council for Equality will also take place.
