The IES Elisa Soriano Fischer in Getafe has expanded its educational offerings with the addition of 400 new public school places this academic year. The Minister of Education, Science, and Universities, Mercedes Zarzalejo, visited the new facilities, which represent an investment of 5.2 million euros by the regional government. These new infrastructures include 12 classrooms for Secondary and Baccalaureate education, five specialized classrooms, two for group splitting, two for small groups, two seminar rooms, and a sports court.
Zarzalejo recalled that these works are in addition to the existing group classrooms, gymnasium, and sports court, which required an additional investment of 3.1 million euros.
The commitment to public education in Getafe also includes the construction of a new institute in the Los Molinos neighborhood, with works to be awarded shortly after their approval in May. This future center will feature 28 classrooms for ESO and Baccalaureate, five for group splitting, ten seminar rooms, specialized classrooms, an administrative area, and a gymnasium. The projected investment for this project exceeds 14.5 million euros.
Additionally, the expansion of the public primary and secondary school Miguel de Cervantes is currently being tendered. With an investment of 1.5 million euros, this expansion will add 180 new school places and include group classrooms, splitting classrooms, specialized classrooms, a library, and a teachers' lounge.
Since 2019, Getafe has been one of the municipalities in Madrid that has received the most investment in educational infrastructure, exceeding 33 million euros in new construction, renovations, and equipment, which has enabled the creation of 3,360 new public school places.
