Since the start of the A-5 underpass construction in 2025, public transport in Alcorcón has been a constant source of frustration for its inhabitants. Road travel has become complicated due to traffic jams, lane closures, and vehicle congestion at the entrances to Madrid. Concurrently, the C-5 Cercanías line has experienced daily failures, while the Metro has seen increasing overcrowding.
User complaints have been persistent, highlighting deficiencies in service, infrastructure, and trains, as well as numerous delays that have disrupted daily routines. Although the C-5 Cercanías was considered a vital option for connecting to Madrid capital, it has become a continuous challenge, with no clear solution in sight.
“"The present could not be worse: unheard petitions, ignored complaints, constant breakdowns, and unaddressed neighborhood despair."
The demands from municipalities in southern Madrid, including Alcorcón and Móstoles, regarding the C-5 problems, will finally be addressed. While improvements will not be immediate, a substantial transformation is expected from 2028, with work commencing in 2027. These changes will, as usual, involve service disruptions, posing a new challenge for residents already accustomed to transport difficulties.
The joint effort of municipal, regional, and national institutions will be crucial to materialize these improvements. It is anticipated that the results of this patience and previously ignored petitions will begin to be seen from 2029. Furthermore, Alcorcón could indirectly benefit from a future network extension to the southwest, with connections from Móstoles to towns like Boadilla del Monte or Villaviciosa de Odón, which would expand travel options.
Another fundamental aspect is the improvement of frequencies and the renewal of the train fleet. Advances in this area are expected around 2031, with the introduction of new, higher-capacity trains and a focus on accessibility. The C-5 line, which currently operates with the oldest Cercanías trains, will undergo a necessary modernization to optimize its service, starting with the renovation of its carriages.
