This decision comes after continuous delays and non-payments affecting over 300 employees in the cleaning service. The local administration has expressed its commitment to supporting workers, stating it will not allow them to be “hostages” to the situation created by the company.
“"I will not allow workers to be hostages of the contracted company for one more day. I have given instructions for this City Council to make that payment directly as soon as there is a delay. This is a very serious matter."
Municipal sources have confirmed that employees have already received their delayed April salary, and the March salary will be paid in the coming days. The direct intervention by the City Council will occur if workers do not receive their salaries by the last day of each month, and appropriate sanctions will be applied to the responsible company.
In response to this situation, workers have called for demonstrations in front of the City Council on May 14th, 19th, and 21st, under the slogan “Grupo Abeto doesn't pay.” The situation has also been reported to the Labor Inspectorate, as payment delays could constitute a serious violation of the Workers' Statute, which guarantees the right to timely salary payment.
