The municipality of Móstoles is joining the ‘Light Up Orange for Epilepsy’ initiative, promoted by the National Association of People with Epilepsy. The aim is to raise visibility for this neurological disorder and the challenges faced by those who suffer from it, including social stigma and difficulties in the workplace.
Epilepsy is defined as a chronic neurological disease characterized by recurrent seizures. These can manifest as brief episodes of involuntary movements affecting only one part of the body (partial seizures) or spreading to the entire organism (generalized seizures). In certain situations, they can also lead to loss of consciousness and sphincter control.
In Spain, between 10,000 and 20,000 new cases of epilepsy are detected each year, equivalent to an average of two diagnoses per hour.
