This project aims to improve the connection between the Juan de la Cierva neighborhood, near the fairgrounds, and the Los Ángeles industrial park. The proposed underground passage is similar to the one already linking El Casar with Los Molinos, facilitating traffic and removing urban barriers.
Mayor Hernández emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader plan for the area, which also includes the renovation of the bullring, the creation of the new C-3 ‘Getafe Industrial’ station, the future La Aviación neighborhood, and a new axis on Fundidores street. The latter will feature a bridge over the A-4 highway (leading to Córdoba) to connect with Perales del Río.
“"The project envisions an integrated model that will extend from Los Molinos to the new La Estación neighborhood and the area around the Renfe ‘Getafe Industrial’ station."
The first step in this development will be the renovation of the bullring, which has been closed since 2007. A study has already been commissioned to assess the structural issues of the bullring and quantify the repair costs. This report will determine if the bullring can be temporarily reopened while the winning project from the international ideas competition for its reform is executed, with the winning team currently developing a phased plan.
The current bridge over the C-3, connecting Juan de la Cierva with the Los Ángeles industrial park, will be demolished and replaced by the underground passage. This decision was made because the current design represents an “urban barrier,” according to the mayor. This measure is feasible following the cessation of activity at the ‘Corrugados’ foundry, which will allow for the recovery of those lands, although their future use has not yet been defined.
Finally, Getafe has requested the Ministry of Public Works to construct a bridge over the A-4 on the Fundidores axis. This bridge would connect the Los Ángeles industrial park with the future road to Perales del Río, once the Community of Madrid approves the roundabout on the M-301 to link with the Los Olivos industrial park.
