The work began today, Monday, with the removal of wooden bollards separating vehicle traffic from the gravel, bicycle, and pedestrian areas. During the first week, the road will remain open to traffic, after which it will be closed in different periods, with timely information provided about the restrictions.
The total estimated duration of the works is 4 months. The investment, amounting to one million euros, is fully covered by the Getafe City Council, which seeks to improve the neighborhood's connectivity and ensure dignified mobility for residents.
These actions respond to a joint request from the entities of Perales del Río and its residents. The Regional Administration, the Community of Madrid, is not providing funding for this project, which will be carried out according to the resolution from last June, mandating the maintenance of bollards and a speed limit of 20 km/h.
The Getafe council had proposed to the Community of Madrid the return of two-way circulation due to delays in the works for the roundabout on the M-301. The City Council has expedited procedures with affected services and entities and farmers who may be impacted by the temporary closure of the road.
These works mark the end of a long process initiated in 2021 following the damage caused by storm Filomena, which led the Community of Madrid to limit the road's use to a single direction. Given the lack of progress on the infrastructure promised by the regional government, the City Council has taken the initiative to offer a partial solution.
The Getafe government team will continue working with citizens and associations to find definitive solutions, such as building a parallel road, the roundabout on the M-301, its connection to the Los Olivos Industrial Area, and the arrival of the Metro to Perales, initiatives that, according to the council, the Community of Madrid has refused to promote.
