The municipal program 'Cuidamos la Escuela' (We Care for the School), promoted by the Education Department of the Fuenlabrada City Council, primarily aims to optimize the maintenance and cleaning of public educational centers. The initiative seeks to integrate cleaning staff into the daily dynamics of the centers and involve students, teachers, and families in caring for the school spaces.
The Councilor for Education, Ana Pérez, highlighted that this pioneering program focuses not only on cleaning but also on a significant educational and coexistence component. A key element is the change in the cleaning staff's schedule, who now work during mornings, interacting with students and teachers, unlike their previous afternoon shifts.
This schedule modification allows for the cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, and common areas while they are in use, thereby making the work of the cleaning team visible and integrating them into the educational community. The measure aims to foster in students an awareness of caring for common spaces, encourage their active participation in maintaining order and cleanliness, and develop skills in coexistence and respect.
The presence of cleaning staff is considered a direct educational tool within the classroom and the center. The 'Cuidamos la Escuela' program, initiated two years ago in some centers, has expanded to most public schools in Fuenlabrada, yielding very satisfactory results. It is planned to be implemented in all public Early Childhood and Primary Education centers next academic year.
