The El Castillo Summer Cinema marks its 40th anniversary this year, having served as an essential cultural meeting point in the southwest of the Community of Madrid since 1985.

The history of this venue is tied to the development of leisure activities in Alcorcón. The origins of this tradition date back to the fifties, when screenings began in a local dance hall, attracting hundreds of residents at a time when the town's population was small.
Over the years, the management of various exhibition halls ensured that film premieres reached the city, fostering a cultural habit that persisted for generations. In 1975, the opening of new facilities marked a milestone in the municipality's recreational infrastructure, providing access to productions that were previously only shown in the capital.
The inauguration of El Castillo in 1985, located in Villaviciosa de Odón, continued this philosophy of accessibility. The venue has remained active for four decades, adapting to changing times while maintaining its family-friendly atmosphere and its tradition of cinema under the stars.
Currently, the management of various cultural spaces in the region keeps the legacy of these initiatives alive. Beyond the technology used in the screenings, the impact of these venues lies in their role as places for social gathering and collective memory for the inhabitants of Alcorcón and the surrounding areas.
