Railway circulation at Atocha station was complicated on Wednesday night by falling construction materials onto the tracks, causing a near two-hour halt to seven lines of Cercanías Madrid.

The incident, which occurred at 9:50 PM, affected lines C-2, C-3, C-4, C-7, C-8a, C-8b, and C-10. Adif reported that the problem stemmed from a power outage caused by construction materials falling onto the track. Technical teams worked to resolve the issue, and service began to progressively recover around 11:30 PM.
Lines C-2, C-7, and C-8 experienced diversions between San Fernando de Henares and Guadalajara, with significant delays. On line C-3, service was limited between Villaverde Bajo and Parla, and on line C-4, between Villaverde Alto and Parla, and between Chamartín and Colmenar Viejo or Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes. Line C-10 was completely interrupted. Lines C-1 and C-5 operated normally.
Despite the service recovery, lines C-3 and C-4 maintained restrictions, with circulation only restored between Sol and Atocha towards Atocha. Cercanías Madrid advised travelers to use alternative transport due to severe delays, particularly on line C-10.
The situation led to numerous user complaints on social media, exacerbated by the start of the 2026 Pride festivities, which significantly increase passenger numbers. To facilitate passenger journeys, Cercanías Madrid operated a special train on line C-3 at 1:00 AM between Getafe Industrial and Atocha.
The malfunction also affected medium and long-distance services passing through Atocha, including trains to or from Extremadura and Andalusia, as explained by Adif.
On Thursday, rail circulation has been restored, and the affected lines are operating with their usual frequencies and routes.
