ESMASA, the Municipal Services Company of Alcorcón, has revalidated for the second consecutive year the distinction of 'Three Blue Wasps'. This prestigious award, granted by the Spanish Association of Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Manufacturers (ASPAPEL) and the Spanish Association of Paper and Cardboard Recyclers (REPACAR), recognizes the work of the company and the Alcorcón City Council in the selective collection of waste deposited in the blue bin.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 27, at the El Beatriz Auditorium in Madrid. At the event, a representation of ESMASA, led by its president, Raquel Rodríguez, received the award. In total, 46 city councils and local entities were recognized for their recycling practices.
“"For us, it is a great privilege to receive three Blue Wasps again this year. Both our citizens and our teams are highly involved in the correct separation of waste, and the data clearly shows this. We want to build the best possible city, and a key pillar in achieving this is recycling well."
This distinction marks the third recognition with the highest category of 'Three Blue Wasps' for ESMASA and the City Council in the last four years. To obtain this certification, they have successfully passed a rigorous evaluation of 21 indicators covering selective collection, complementary services, awareness campaigns, route planning, and recycling traceability.
The data from 2025 highlights the success of the management in Alcorcón, with over 5,004 tons of paper and cardboard recycled, representing an increase of 3.48% compared to the previous year. Each resident deposited an average of 28.82 kilograms in the blue bin, exceeding the national average of 22.42 kilograms.
