Alcorcón registers its lowest unemployment figure in a May since 2005

Alcorcón ended May 2026 with 6,819 unemployed people, the lowest figure for this month since comparable data has been available in 2005, representing a significant decrease compared to the previous year and month.

The city of Alcorcón has reached a milestone in its labor market by recording the lowest unemployment figure for May since 2005. With a total of 6,819 people out of work, a notable decrease of 195 unemployed individuals compared to May 2025 and 100 compared to the previous month has been observed, consolidating a positive trend.
This reduction in unemployment has been particularly concentrated among the female population and the 24 to 44 age group, demographics that traditionally show higher activity in the local labor market. In parallel, Social Security affiliation data at the end of April showed 51,832 affiliates in Alcorcón, nearly 600 more than the previous year. Contract formalization has also seen growth, with 2,537 signed in the same period, a 30% increase compared to 2025, of which nearly 60% were permanent contracts.
In the field of document management, Alcorcón hosted the Madrid Municipal Archives Conference at the Viñagrande Civic Center. The event brought together specialists to discuss challenges such as access to information, data protection, digital transformation, and the use of artificial intelligence in public archives. The conference, inaugurated by the mayoress Candelaria Testa, included presentations and roundtables, as well as an explanation of the daily work of the Municipal Archive of Alcorcón by one of its professionals.
The Sports Festival of Alcorcón will mark the end of the season on June 7th at the Santo Domingo sports center. Organized by the Association of Sports Clubs of Alcorcón (ACDA), the day will feature an awards ceremony, activities for citizens, a popular paella, and a solidarity component. Proceeds from refreshments will be donated to a five-year-old child from the municipality, and there will be an information stand from the Platform of Educators of Alcorcón.

Furthermore, the City Council of Alcorcón has opened registrations for a new edition of its Senior Hiking Program, aimed at members of municipal centers aged over 55. The initiative, which will take place between June 3rd and 24th, aims to promote physical activity and active aging through five routes across different natural spaces in the Community of Madrid, with departures from the Glorieta de Los Cantos.
