The decision to reduce the number of stalls stems from recommendations by the Municipal Police and the Fire Department, aiming to improve safety, facilitate attendee movement, and expand evacuation areas. According to the Department of Culture, Festivities, and Seniors, this measure seeks to decrease overcrowding during peak times and ensure evacuation routes remain clear.
Interested entities have a period of ten calendar days from the publication of the call on June 4th on the municipal website to submit their applications. Documentation can be registered through the Citizen Portal, the General Registry of Alcorcón City Council, or via other legal procedures. Political parties with municipal representation, as well as cultural associations and non-profit sports entities registered with the Municipal Registry of Citizen Participation Entities, are eligible for a plot.
“"The stalls in the fairground and the participation of local associations are a central part of our festivals' identity. It is the neighborhood involvement that makes them unique and special. We have adopted the recommended changes so that everyone can enjoy safe festivities."
After reserving plots for municipal political groups, the remaining stalls will be allocated through a competitive bidding process. Evaluation criteria will include participation in the city's social, cultural, and sports life, organization of activities, number of members, and previous festival experience. The plot selection will take place at a public event on June 23rd at 7:00 PM in the Hall of the Municipal Center for the Arts of Alcorcón, following the ranking order and a draw in case of a tie.
The City Council emphasizes that the reduction in stalls will not diminish local associative participation but aims to reorganize the space to enhance the safety of the venue. The goal is a less crowded fairground with better pedestrian pathways and evacuation routes, while maintaining its role as a key meeting and coexistence point for the patron saint celebrations.
