The Alcorcón City Council has launched a campaign to monitor the use of personal mobility devices (VMPs), such as electric scooters, issuing fines of up to 1,000 euros for violations.

The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure compliance with current regulations and promote responsible use of personal mobility devices (VMPs) on the streets of Alcorcón. The campaign, led by the Municipal Police, aims to improve road safety amidst the growing popularity of electric scooters as an urban transport option.
Control actions will be carried out randomly at various points within the municipality. Officers will be monitoring common infractions such as riding on sidewalks and pedestrian zones, using mobile phones or headphones while driving, carrying more than one person, or exceeding the speed limit of 25 km/h.
It will also be verified that VMPs are equipped with mandatory safety features, including brakes, lights, and reflectors. Special emphasis will be placed on new administrative requirements, such as civil liability insurance, registration with the General Directorate of Traffic, and an identification plate where required. Attention will be paid to potential modifications aimed at altering the vehicle's performance, particularly its speed.
The campaign also includes checks for drivers operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The City Council reminds the public that serious or very serious infractions can lead to the immediate immobilization of the vehicle and fines ranging from 100 to 1,000 euros.

The campaign seeks to reinforce citizen awareness and prevent situations that could endanger both pedestrians and riders.

The second deputy mayor and councilor for Citizen Security, David López, highlighted the Council's commitment to sustainable mobility, stressing the need for responsible usage. The initiative aims to increase awareness and prevent incidents.
