The initiative aims to foster a balanced distribution of family responsibilities and promote models of co-responsible and egalitarian masculinity. The event will begin at 9:30 AM at the Margarita Burón Civic Center with an institutional opening, featuring the participation of the mayor, Candelaria Testa.
The inaugural conference, titled ‘Co-responsibility and Social Commitment: Towards an Effective Culture of Equality’, will be led by Miguel Lorente Acosta, who will address resistance to change and the need to advance towards greater equality.
At 11:30 AM, Cristina García Sainz, a Doctor of Sociology and professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid, will deliver the keynote speech ‘Co-responsibility, Care, and Time Use: Keys and Future Challenges’.
Subsequently, at 12:15 PM, the discussion ‘Whose Care Is It?: Talking About Co-responsible Masculinities’ will take place, with professionals from the Observatory of Masculinities at Miguel Hernández University.
At 1:15 PM, the meeting ‘Alliances for Change: The Role of Companies and Unions in the Culture of Care’ will be held, a forum for dialogue between representatives of trade unions and business organizations, including CCOO and UGT.
In the afternoon, at 3:30 PM, Erick Pescador Albiach will conduct the workshop-conference ‘Conscious and Responsible Paternities’, focusing on reflecting on the role of fatherhood in social and cultural transformation processes.
The event will conclude at 5:00 PM with the performance of ‘Teatro Foro: The Glass Cage’, a theatrical piece structured into three independent scenes addressing the theme in the home and workplace.
According to the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Feminism, and Seniors, Sonia López, this event is being held because ‘Alcorcón continues to commit to raising awareness and educating society as a whole, especially men, on co-responsibility in caregiving tasks’. The councilor adds that the aim is to promote critical reflection on ‘traditional models of masculinity’ and encourage male involvement in achieving equality.
The activity is part of the Awareness and Training project of the Co-responsible Plan, which seeks to facilitate work-life balance, promote co-responsibility between men and women, value caregiving tasks, and foster social and cultural changes.
