The Villamantilla City Council chose this year to dedicate the opening speech of its festivities to the individuals who participated in the firefighting efforts of the severe forest fire that ravaged the Sierra Oeste this summer, the most destructive in the history of the Community of Madrid. Recognition was also given to those who collaborated in assisting people displaced from their homes.
The council extended this recognition to the Deputy Director of Civil Protection, Pascual Galera, and to Carlos Salmerón, Pablo Sánchez, and Armando Ledo, from the Operational Coordination team of ASEM112, for their outstanding work during the evacuation of those affected by the incident.
During his address to the residents, the director of ASEM112 praised the efforts of security, emergency, and healthcare professionals, as well as Civil Protection volunteers who were involved in the firefighting and assistance to affected citizens. He also highlighted the contribution of mayors, council members, and employees from the affected municipalities and those that hosted displaced residents, who played a crucial role in aid and coordination with regional emergency services.
Furthermore, he emphasized the conduct of the citizens, both those affected and those in host communities, noting the serenity, prudence, and generosity shown during the days of evacuation or confinement in the areas most impacted by the fire.
