The mayor of Sevilla la Nueva, Asensio Martínez Agraz, met with the Director General of Roads to advance the future Madrid Southwest Motorway project, aiming to enhance access, safety, and environmental protection.

The mayor of Sevilla la Nueva, Asensio Martínez Agraz, held a working meeting with the Director General of Roads of the Community of Madrid and her team to analyze the development of the M-600 duplication project as it passes through the municipality, integrated into the future Madrid Southwest Motorway.
This long-demanded infrastructure is significant for the municipality's future. The City Council had already formally conveyed the need to undertake the M-600 duplication and improve access, with road safety as a primary objective.
The regional project includes a new 41-kilometer axis serving nine municipalities and benefiting over 100,000 residents, strengthening communications in the southwest of the Community of Madrid. Documentation presented for Sevilla la Nueva highlights planned improvements in accessibility, travel times, traffic, and territorial integration.
For the City Council, the infrastructure will address three fundamental needs: improving access and mobility by facilitating connections and traffic flow; enhancing road safety, long requested due to traffic volume and risk situations, aiming to reduce accidents by separating traffic directions; and protecting the municipality's valuable natural heritage through integration into the territory.
The Community of Madrid's proposal incorporates environmental criteria such as Net Zero construction, ecoducts for wildlife passage, carbon sinks, and landscape integration, under the concept of 'connection and protection'.
The future Madrid Southwest Motorway is currently in the planning phase. The Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure has awarded a contract for 2.87 million euros (excluding VAT) for the technical feasibility study, environmental impact assessment, and the construction and operation preliminary project for the section between the M-503 and M-407 roads.
The project also includes future mobility solutions such as intelligent traffic management using artificial intelligence, 5G and V2X connectivity, ultra-fast electric charging, and preparation for autonomous vehicles.
“

"This is very good news for Sevilla la Nueva because it allows us to work simultaneously on three issues we have been demanding for years: better access, a much safer road, and a solution that respects our natural environment. Our goal is to seize this opportunity to achieve infrastructure that meets the current and future needs of our residents without compromising the protection of one of our greatest assets, our environment."

Asensio Martínez Agraz · Mayor of Sevilla la Nueva
The City Council will continue to work with the Community of Madrid throughout the project definition phases to convey Sevilla la Nueva's specific needs and ensure the final route improves mobility and safety, resolves access issues, and integrates optimally into the territory.
