The municipality of El Álamo is preparing to step back in time with its Medieval Fair, an event that has become one of Europe's most significant of its kind. From Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3, coinciding with Mother's Day, the town will welcome thousands of visitors to a historical reenactment promising immersion and entertainment.
This twenty-ninth edition will break records with over 400 craft and gastronomy stalls spread over two kilometers. A hundred daily activities, organized by some thirty theater, circus, and music companies, will bring the streets to life. The fair is the only one in the Community of Madrid recognized as of Regional Tourist Interest, standing out for its massive parades, 17 free concerts from The Celtival Music festival, and traditional craft workshops.
The previous edition attracted over 350,000 visitors from different regions of Spain and countries like Portugal, France, and Italy, and this year that figure is expected to be surpassed.
One of the biggest attractions is the Jousting Tournament, which will take place in the La Chacona Bullring. In this equestrian spectacle, 16 specialists and six purebred Spanish horses will recreate medieval jousts, with a set design that includes over 150 pieces of original costumes, historical weaponry, and fire effects, transforming the venue into a palenque with capacity for 4,500 spectators.
The program also includes the return of the Arab souk next to the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, where Moroccan teas and sweets can be tasted, and a new international gastronomic area with dishes from various cultures. The parades, both day and night, will fill the streets with fantastic creatures, acrobats, and musicians, culminating on Sunday with a grand farewell parade illuminated by torches.
Celtic music will be a highlight with The Celtival Music at the Cantarranas Fairgrounds, bringing together 14 bands that fuse folk with contemporary sounds. Additionally, artisans will demonstrate traditional techniques such as forging and pottery, and visitors can enjoy local products like honey, cheeses, and cured meats. For children, the fair offers a dedicated space with themed camps, puppets, magic, storytelling, and attractions like a Ferris wheel and archery.
