On the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day, the Villalbilla City Council, in collaboration with the Women's Socio-Cultural Association and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, aims to raise awareness of the disease, support patients and their families, and promote research.
Under the state slogan "Nos lo tomamos a pecho" (We take it to heart), the municipality has prepared a program of activities to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, and comprehensive medical and social care.
The main event will be the IV Breast Cancer Solidarity March this Sunday, October 18, starting at 10:00 AM from Parque del Tesoro. Fruit will be offered to participants at the end of the route.
The Spanish Association Against Cancer will set up information booths to answer questions and receive donations. Additionally, the facade of the Villalbilla City Hall will be illuminated in pink as a symbol of support.
Breast cancer is the most common tumor among women in Spain. It is estimated that in 2026, over 38,000 people will be diagnosed, and more than 516,000 women currently live with it. The five-year survival rate is 82.8%, exceeding 99% for cases detected early and localized solely in the breast.
The Spanish Association Against Cancer allocates over 32 million euros to more than 110 specific research projects on breast cancer. They offer continuous support through the free telephone line 900 100 036, available 24/7.
The City Council invites residents to participate in this solidarity event to demonstrate the municipality's commitment to fighting the disease.
