The municipality of Valdemaqueda, with approximately 900 inhabitants, has received the evacuation order through the EsAlert system. This measure was taken due to the expansion of the fire affecting the Sierra Oeste region of the Community of Madrid.
From the Advanced Command Post in Navalcarnero, Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska reported that the fire, which has also spread to Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha, has led to the evacuation of over 35,000 people in the region and has kept around 22,000 confined.
The emergency operation is focusing its efforts on three priority sectors, deploying nearly 3,000 personnel and approximately a thousand ground and air resources to combat the incident.
“"Today and tomorrow are absolutely crucial days"
The minister indicated that while meteorological conditions remain complex, the wind is expected to be less intense this Monday, which will allow for a more proactive approach on the ground.
Regarding the affected area, provisional estimates place the burned surface at around 25,000 hectares in the Community of Madrid and approximately 50,000 in the province of Ávila, although a definitive measurement will be made once the emergency concludes.
